Bill "Bubba" E. Standard

December 17, 1950 - March 25, 2015 Bill E. (Bubba) Standard, 64, of Mountain View, Arkansas passed away on March 25, 2015 at his home. Bill was born on December 17, 1950, the same day 47 years earlier the Wright Brothers flew their first plane. Bill was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to the late Gerald Eugene and Patricia Mae (Lapham) Standard. Bill served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era. Bill was a member of the Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 202 as well as a member of the Sylamore Baptist Church.

Bill was a loving husband, devoted father, and caring brother. He loved the outdoors, fishing, carving and he loved people.

Bill grew up in Spring Branch, Texas and upon graduation he joined the United States Army. He was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and upon his discharge he stayed in Alaska until 1977. He then located to Oregon, where his son Stephen was born in Grants Pass, Oregon. In 1982 Bill left Oregon and returned to Texas (with stops in Idaho and Colorado along the way) where he met his wife of 30 years, Melody Miller. The call of the outdoors and great fishing called him back to Alaska soon after he married Melody and they left for Alaska to be closer to his son Stephen. In 2000 Bill and Melody moved to Mountain View, Arkansas to be closer to family, Ray Ramsey and Bette Rae Miller. After retiring from the Title Insurance business he took advantage of an apprenticeship from the Committee of 100 and became the wood carver at the Ozark Folk Center State Park. Bill was truly in his element there, surrounded by people every day there was never a visitor that did not feel like they were with an old friend. He was most famous for his carved "portrait" toothpicks. Bill will be remembered for always bringing laughter to each life he touched.

Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Melody Miller-Standard; one son, Stephen Standard and girlfriend, Amy Shepherd of Yukon, Oklahoma; two brothers, Tim Standard and wife Wiwiek of Arvada, Colorado, and Jim Standard and wife, Sandra of Glendale, Oregon; one aunt, Norma Standard of Laverne, California, and two grandchildren, Jadyn Standard of Connecticut and Kenai Standard of Yukon, Oklahoma and his Mother-in-law Bette Rae Miller of Mountain View, Arkansas.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Eugene and Patricia Mae (Lapham) Standard.

A memorial service will take place on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 2 pm on the Sylamore Creek at his home, 137 Sylamore Creek Road.

Honorary Pallbears are Butch Brownlee, Phillip Dobbins, Guy Harris, Jerry Massey, Bart Rand and Tom Weir
