I met Denver at George Washington Jr. High.  We were in the 7th grade. He was a great dodgeball player and could beat Ben Stiller on his best day. I lost contact with him when my family moved to San Antonio for 2 years or so. We moved back to Houston in my Sophmore year. When I first started school at Spring Branch, I wasn't having much fun. Then I ran into Denver at lunchtime. He was always a friendly fella and he could draw you into a conversation with his 20 question attitude. We both liked cars and so we ended up taking auto shop in our Junior year. Denver's cousin Terry Noviskie was in class as well. Denver had a '59 Chevy. Terry and I had funky cars that were only a little better than death traps. Mine was a '62 Rambler (shudder) and Terry had an English car , a Hillman Minx. We survived those cars and got out of school, only slightly smarter, but a little taller. Denver went on to a fine career in the Houston Fire Dept. I saw him on t.v. once serving a ticket to the managers of the Astrodome for not complying with the Fire Code. He passed about 10 years ago. Obviously way too young for that. Terry passed last year and I'm hanging by a thread. Tempus fugit, I suppose. I remember us as pimple faced motorheads and always will.
