After marrying Douglas in 1972, I graduated from University of Houston in 1974. I taught school until we started our family in 1977. I was lucky enough to get to to be a stay home mom, and satisfied my teaching urge by tutoring students after school and working with La Leche League for 12 years.
The kids were excellent travelers when they were small, so we took some great trips to Canada, Mexico, Ireland, and England. According to my daughter, we dragged them to every historical living museum in the US, as well.
We transferred to Central IL in 1993. I taught school there for 12 years. I loved the Midwest - snow and all, but our kids couldn't wait to get back to Texas.
We moved back to Georgetown in 2007. Our daughter and son-in-law have 3 children, Cambria, Teage, and Bryn. Our oldest son is a Marine who retired after serving in Iraq. He and his wife, Sarah live near Burnett, and are the parents of our youngest granddaughter, Anne-Marie. Our youngest son returned to Texas from Peoria, and is employed by Panera.
Douglas and I both love being grandparents. We bought a house in Georgetown in 2008,and our project each summer has been to keep the yard alive. I retired from teaching in 2006, but have great fun teaching the preschool class at church. Doug retired from his career as a financial manager at Graybar Electric, and now we are full time grandparents and gardeners who consistently raise eyebrows among our local HOW by raising vegetables and tons of flowers in the front yard where the grass used to be!
I am on Facebook, and would love to catch up with others from our class.
